Easter on the Internet

March 11, 2009

easterbunnybagrosemarysgardenetsy

Maybe you haven’t seen some of these beautifully crafted items for Easter. This is an Bunny Bag from Rosemary’s Garden. Most of the sites I’m featuring are listed on Etsy and Replacements.com. I’m so impressed with the quality and beauty these artist bring to the market. As I’m browsing and thinking about Easter which is April 12th this year, I’m always thinking of you too. Maybe you’ll find something different for your Easter decorations or that fun gift to give for the season. I think these will all be appropriate for Spring too. I have no affiliation with any of these shops. I do believe in promoting beauty and these are certainly beautiful!

Below is a list of gardening buds who signed up for the Gardening by Letter project. Jen @ Muddy Boot Dreams was the first to sign up so she will get the first box of gardening letters sometime in March. I’ll email everyone my address so you can send the cards to me to forward on. I’ve been listing a few ideas for the project on my sidebar under Gardening Card Project. The only rule is that you must keep the card to a standard card size. You can put anything in the card that you like and I have listed a few ideas under the catagory above. You can not send food because it will not go through customs. Don’t send anything perishable or edible. Don’t send anything that will not cross the border. There is probably a list somewhere. I should figure that out huh?

I will close the registration on March 1st. I’ll keep a running list on this post of who has signed up. I will make the cut off at 24 people so no one person has to send more than two cards  per month to participate. The order is determined by sign up date. Jen signed up first and I’m always last. I will keep all addresses private unless you wish to include your return address on the envelope. I won’t be opening the cards but will be forwarding them. The project will run for one full year. March 2009 to April 2010. If enough people sign up then Jen will share March with Jodi. They will each get 11 to 23 cards. I made that as clear as mud didn’t I? If I forgot your name—forgive me and pass it along.

Current is a catalog company who specializes in gift wrap, cards, stationary, and many personalized items. I ran across a handy gadget for those of you who like to give and exchange seeds.

Dave in Tennesse, over at The Home Garden, has a Garden Blogger Seed Swap going on. Take a look and see if you would like to participate. I’m all about gardeners spreading seeds of encouragement.

To help you identify your seed packets easily, I have a nifty little gadget that will help you catalog your harvest. It’s called a Xyron 150 Sticker Maker. You can take a picture of the plant or flower, make a sticker from the photo, and attach that picture to the seed packet. It will look professional and save  you some time.

Visit Current and see what else they have. I am in no way affiliated with this company and have not received any money or items in exchange for this company plug. I’m only sharing cause I think it’s a pretty cool idea for those who make their own seed packets.

The card above was created on my computer using iPhoto. I could send it off to the Apple store to be printed. If you don’t have an Apple account, you can use Kodak.com. There are other programs out there to make cards and letter head. I like the idea of using my own pictures. Here is a cute valentine card you can make and insert your own photo. Another group of cards is called Sour Cherries. Or you can choose blank and use your imagination. Cards will usually ship in one week or less. I’ve created memory books from these sites also.
Hallmark has some very classy cards you can make from your photos. Some sites will mail them for you also. Don’t keep those beautiful photos to yourself. Let your garden grow all year long and all around the world by sending cards and letters.
You can create postage stamps to match your postcards or letters. How would you like your favorite gardening photos on a stamp?   Take it a step further and make the stamp too.
Stamps make a great gift item and especially if they are gifts from you garden.

Gardening by Letter

February 2, 2009

This project is closed for new sign-ups. Please scroll to the end for updates as each person recieves their package of cards. Thank you to all who signed up.

I have a really fun idea. I’m actually a good organizer. I volunteer myself to collect the information and set this idea in motion. Some of you will get really creative with this and we’ll have loads of fun. A button will be made like the one above and you’ll be recognized as participating in the Gardening by Letter project.

I miss writing and would love to send out a card that maybe I’ve made or bought. I’m drawn to flowers and the such—so I’m naming it The Gardening Letter project. After picking a pretty card or writing a lovely garden letter….I might choose to include a packet of seeds, a dried flower, a small handkerchief, bookmark, gift certificate for free stuff,  or anything you can send in a envelope. The only rule is that you must keep to a standard card size envelope. Keep it to gardening, flowers, and well…you get it.

Here is how it works—I collect the addresses of the bloggers who want to participate. Once a month I’ll chose a person/persons as the recipient of that months collection of gardening letters or cards. We need at least 12 people to get started and the more the merrier. I’ll verify the addresses or PO Box.

Entries will end March 1st, 2009

Here is what we are going to do.

1. Send me your address by the link at the top of my page. It goes through wordpress and ends up in my inbox. I’ll contact you by email with a PO Box where to send the cards.

2.  Mail the cards to my PO Box. This protects you from everyone but me;) I send them out to the name/s of those selected for that month. They get to open a box full of Gardening Letters and then post about their goodies.

3. Sign your card with an online name or your real name as you get to choose. Do not put your return address on the envelope unless you want the recipient to have it.

Enter by March 1st to be included!!! I’ll keep a running tally of the numbers that have signed up. I’ll post that number daily.

I look forward to hearing from you!

Gardening by Letter will start the 15th of March if we get enough people to sign up. The cards will be sent according to the order in which I receive your address. So the first person to sign up—will be first on the list to get a card. I’ll be last so you don’t think I’m doing it for me. The project will run for one full year.

Start signing up!!!! Click the–contact me—at the top of the home page of my blog.

Please share this idea with those you think would like to participate.

I have made a category for this project. It’s on my sidebar. Once the project starts, I’m make the category a page so you can check it for updates and track the progress.

This project is closed for new sign-ups. I will list the card recipients as they post about the project. Each month, someone receives a package of cards from all the others who signed up for this project. Please visit each one and see what kind of goodies came their way.
